See, Sip & Savor

See, Sip & Savor is a unique event where a limited number of guests are welcomed into lovely spaces to enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres, stimulating conversation, and historic architecture. In 2017 the Historical Society of Long Beach brought the event to Bixby Knolls for the first time.

In 2018, the HSLB has added another exciting feature to See, Sip & Savor. Before the home tour, from 4pm to 6pm, guests have the opportunity to see a one-of-a-kind presentation at the Petroleum Club of Long Beach. Ronald Dean Lindgren, Partner in Killingsworth Stricker Lindgren Wilson Architects, presents “An Architectural History of Edward A. Killingsworth FAIA”, an informative and illustrated program detailing the life and career of Killingsworth in Long Beach and beyond!

The illustrated presentation will be held at the Petroleum Club of Long Beach, located at 3636 Linden Ave., Long Beach 90807. Check-in for the tour portion of the event will be located in front of the Petroleum Club. Tour sites are about 2 miles apart, approximately a 7-minute drive, with a short walk.
Guests have the option of attending the presentation from 4pm to 6pm, the home tour from 6pm to 9pm, or spend the whole afternoon and evening with us and attend both portions of the event! In order to orchestrate both portions of the event, advance tickets are required for the 2018 edition of See, Sip & Savor. Tickets will be on sale through May 14th, or until we have reached capacity. This event is expected to sell out, so don’t delay! Purchase your tickets today!

A few tips to consider before you arrive on Saturday

Please drink responsibly and plan accordingly.

Walking the Tour – The featured tour sites are a bit further apart this year, from .6 to .8 miles, or about 10-16 minute walks for an average walker. The three sites offer a 2.1 mile roundtrip loop. If you also plan to walk from the Petroleum Club, please take care to use designated crosswalks when crossing busy Long Beach Boulevard. Also, stay to the edge of the road while walking on Virginia Road to and from the Killingsworth home location, as there are no sidewalks.
Driving the Tour – If you plan to drink, please designate a driver, or consider using Uber, Lyft, a taxi, or the time honored method of calling a friend! Street parking in all locations will be limited, so we recommend carpooling if possible.
The Rancho Los Cerritos parking lot will be available near the Killingsworth home, with overflow parking available on one side of Virginia Road only. No parking is allowed beyond the designated parking lot entrance. Please follow any instructions given by the attendant.
If you plan to meet friends at the Petroleum Club for the presentation, consider sharing a ride for the balance of the tour. Please be courteous to neighborhood residents, taking care not to block private driveways or pedestrian paths.
Cycling the Tour – We welcome cyclists on the tour. However, there are no dedicated locations for bicycle parking. You may use the chain link fence surrounding the parking lot at the Killingsworth home location to lock bicycles. Tour locations are approximately 4 to 5 minutes apart by bicycle. Remember to drink responsibly and seek help if you become impaired.
Restrooms – To lessen the impact on our homeowners, please limit the use of their private restrooms if possible. Restrooms will be available at the Petroleum Club and portable restrooms will be provided at the parking lot for the Killingsworth home location.
