Cambodian Jewelry Association float in the Parade

The Cambodian Jewelry Association float in the 1st Cambodian New Year Parade, April 24, 2005, in Long Beach, CA. The rooster at the front of the float is in honor of the 2005 Chinese Year of the Rooster. The men and women on the float are dressed in formal Cambodian attire.

Cambodian Dancers in the Parade

Cambodian women dressed in traditional outfits gracefully move in unison down the parade route performing the folk dance, Chhnang, or the Pot Dance.

The Cambodian Association of America Parade Float

The Cambodian Association of America (CAA) entry for the 1st Cambodian New Year Parade in Long Beach, CA featured musicians and apsara dancers in the back of a pickup truck decorated with the Cambodian and U.S. flags, flowers, and a sign that says, “Welcome to the Cambodian New Year Celebration.” The Khmer reads: sua sdey chhnam tmey (Happy New Year).

Cambodian Dance Troupe in the Parade

One of several Cambodian youth dance troupes walks in the 1st Cambodian New Year Parade on Anaheim Street, Long Beach, CA. They are led by an adult dressed as Hanuman, the Monkey King, from the epic poem, the Ramayana (known as the Reamker in Khmer).
