On the last Saturday of October, the Historical Society of Long Beach hosts an exciting cemetery tour in some of the city’s oldest cemeteries. This one-of-a-kind living history celebration attracts 1,250 people and engages the support of more than 95 volunteers, city agencies, community and regional leaders. The event provides an amazing opportunity to remember the role ordinary people play in local, national, and world events. Costumed actors bear witness to the lives of well-known and lesser-known figures in Long Beach history. Visitors enjoy the performances, historical displays, and a lovely day in a unique, park-like setting. Proceeds benefit the Historical Society a nonprofit organization that collects, preserves and presents local history. Using historical documents, photographs, artifacts, and oral and written stories we create exhibitions and public programs that connect people to the past and to the place they live.
